The Brooklyn Flea

It has always surprised me that a big city like New York don’t have a better flea market. Years ago all the parking lots around 26 Street were fun and exiting but since the rezoning of the area and all the constructions Manhattan 26 Street flea market has lost his soul. So this weekend I decided to explore the winter home of the Brooklyn Flea.

Located in the former Williamsburg Savings Bank, worth a visit just to see the gorgeous landmark interior, more than 100 vendors line the former teller windows on the ground floor, secret rooms on the upstairs mezzanine, and the original bank vault on the lower level, which also features the food court and a seating area.

Founded in April 2008 by Jonathan Butler, founder of Brownstoner.com, Brooklyn’s biggest blog, and Eric Demby, the Brooklyn Flea, a weekly market is a fun alternative to the Manhattan ones. Now in its fourth year, the Flea has grown into a New York City institution. The price are similar to the city so is the offering. And if I got away empty handed it was a great start to a daytrip in Brooklyn.

A bientôt,

  1. Great location, only in USA banks look like churches. Bisous.
